About Eko Sujarwo and Dessi Wahyunigsih our TEP children (the children of Mr. Hasan Yusup)

Where there is a will there is a way This is proverb that is easy to say but difficult to do. For Hasan Yusup and his family it has been very difficult. They live in a very poor section of Jakarta.

He works as a "scavenger" for a living. He collects garbage from the streets and dumps, such as plastic, rusty iron, wood and anything else that he can try to sell for get money. By doing this he can only earn money around Rp. 10.000,- ( US $1 ) a day for his family, working all day long every day. This is almost impossible to live on.

One day when he was working as usual, he found a few blocks of wood and picked them up. He didn't know that the wood was still needed by the owner and it got him into trouble. The owner called the police and the police arrested him, but thankfully the police set him free after he explaned that it was all a misunderstanding (Unfortunately, not all of IHF's parents are so fortunate).

He was very frustrated because his wife just gave birth to a baby. His wife had to help her husband by becoming "pengamen" to sing on the street to beg for coins. This was very sad and humiliating for her, but it was necessary for the survival of the family.

Hand in hand, Mr. Yusup and his wife try to make enough money to survive. With their situation how can they possibly finance their children's educations? This is the problem. Because they can barely survive on the money, two of his children must drop out of their school

Their children are EKO SUJARWO and DESSI WAHYUNINGSIH. Eko has realized how impossible it is for his parents to support his and his sister education, but it made him so sad that he wouldn't be able to continue his education. It means that his dream can't come true and he will not be able to improve his family's life without this education. An education would help his family both economically and with their self esteem, and give those he loves so much more. With the realization that the poverty was getting worse and worse, Eko cried out "WHAT CAN I DO???"

The answer to his question and the possibility of his dream coming true happened 2 years ago when IHF found him a sponsor, who for $ 7.00 a month, funded his and his sister Dessi's educations. This allowed them to go to school, and he has evolved into a prideful young man who now has high self esteem and optimism.

Eko now lives with IHF's "PASS IT ON" motto by teaching what he has learned to our younger children. Now he and his IHF school friend believe in "PASS IT ON" because it has blessed both of their lives. Please help us to make more children's dreams come true by passing on the blessings that life has given the rest of us.

We volunteer because we love changing children's lives, and creating hope for them all. Thank you for saving EKO and DESSI, so they can PASS IT ON. Now let's PASS IT ON, all around the world!!!
